ChatGPT and business: how to get AI to recommend your company

SEO & GEO5 min read23 October 2026

In Kazakhstan, «чат gpt» ("chat gpt") is searched on Google about 2.2 million times a month (Google Ads data, October 2026). People are getting used to asking AI instead of scrolling through links. "Where can I order a kitchen in Almaty?", "Which mattress should I choose for back pain?", "Who builds websites for businesses?" — AI answers and names the companies itself.

The main question for a business is whether your company will be in that answer. The work on this is called GEO.

What GEO is, in plain words

SEO is the work of getting your website higher in Google's list of links.

GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) is the work of getting AI to mention you in the answer itself: in ChatGPT, Gemini and Google's AI answers, which appear above the regular links.

One doesn't replace the other. AI often takes its information from websites that already show up well in search. That's why GEO is a continuation of SEO, not a replacement.

How AI decides who to recommend

The companies behind AI don't reveal the exact rules. But the logic is clear: AI relies on what it can find and read online. It is more likely to name companies that have:

  • clear information on their website — what they sell, where and at what price;
  • direct answers to customers' questions;
  • the same details in different places — on the website, in 2GIS, in their Google Business Profile;
  • reviews and mentions.

If your website is just beautiful pictures with no text, AI simply has nothing to say about you.

7 steps to get AI to notice you

1. Put the key things in words, not in pictures

Services, prices, address, answers to questions — all of this should be written on the page in words. ChatGPT and Google won't read text inside a picture.

An example from our work: on a website we moved over from Tilda, the blog articles only loaded after the page had opened. People could see them, but Google couldn't.

2. Answer customers' questions right on your website

Prices or starting prices, lead times, delivery, warranty, how to order. A "Frequently asked questions" block on every important page works well. AI is looking for answers — so give them.

3. Add structured data

This is special markup (schema.org) that "explains" things to search engines: here is the company, here is its address, here are its services and prices, here are the questions and answers. Visitors don't see it, but machines read it.

4. Create an llms.txt file

A short summary of your website made specifically for AI assistants: who you are, what you do, where the main pages are. We add this file to our clients' websites along with structured data.

5. Let AI read your website

Check your robots.txt file: sometimes it blocks AI bots by accident. On the website of the roofing company ReKrovli, we explicitly allowed AI bots to read the pages.

6. Keep your details the same everywhere

Name, address, phone number, opening hours, prices — they should match on your website, in 2GIS and in your Google Business Profile. Different numbers in different places lower trust, for people and machines alike.

7. Show reviews

For the Mir Matrasov mattress factory, we moved 142 real reviews from 2GIS onto the website. Reviews are a trust signal for both shoppers and search engines.

What this looks like in practice

These are numbers from our clients' Google Search Console — impressions of their websites in Google's AI answers:

Project Before After
BAQ Stroy, facade panels 0 impressions in early August 1,330 impressions in 3 months
ReKrovli, roof repair 83 impressions in 28 days 285 impressions in the next 28 days
Mir Matrasov, mattress factory — 17,500 impressions in 3 months

Important: these are statistics for AI answers in Google. OpenAI doesn't provide separate impression statistics for ChatGPT — there you can only see clicks through to your website.

How to check yourself in 5 minutes

  1. Open ChatGPT and ask what your customer would ask: "Where can I buy [your product] in [your city]?"
  2. See who AI names and why.
  3. Open your website: does it have direct answers to the same question — prices, address, terms?
  4. Compare it with the websites of the companies AI named.

Most of the time, the difference is obvious right away.

Frequently asked questions

Does GEO replace SEO?

No. GEO builds on SEO: if your website is hard to find in search, AI finds it less often too. The two need to be done together.

How long until I see results?

In our projects, the first noticeable impressions in Google's AI answers appeared one to two months after the website was improved. The exact timing depends on the niche and the competition.

Is this right for a small business?

Yes. People often ask AI about their own city: "where in Almaty…", "who in Shymkent…". For a local business, this is especially important.

What should I do first?

Add answers to common questions, with prices, to your website, and check that the key information is written on the page in words, not as a picture. It's quick and helps with both SEO and GEO.
