Website calculator: how it brings in inquiries and what a good one looks like

Websites4 min read4 November 2026

A website calculator is a form where a person enters sizes, material or volume and immediately sees an approximate price. For products and services where the price depends on specifications, it's the fastest answer to the customer's main question: "How much will it cost in my case?"

In Kazakhstan, people search Google for «калькулятор на сайт» ("calculator for a website") about 50 times a month, for «калькулятор цены» ("price calculator") about 110 times, and for «калькулятор для сайта» ("website calculator") about 20 times (Google Ads data, November 2026). Let's look at who needs one, what it should calculate and how to turn an estimate into an inquiry.

Who needs a calculator

A calculator is useful where the price is made up of several factors:

  • Roofing and facades: area, material, fasteners.
  • Windows and doors: dimensions, frame profile, hardware.
  • Custom furniture and mattresses: size, material, filling.
  • Asphalt paving and landscaping: area, layer thickness, debris removal.
  • Rolled metal: type, size, length, quantity.

If you have one product at one price, you don't need a calculator: a clear price list is enough.

What a good calculator should do

What Why
Simple questions people shouldn't have to know technical terms
Hints and pictures it's clear where to measure and what to choose
An instant result no sign-up and no waiting for a call
A "Send estimate" button the estimate goes to your WhatsApp or CRM
An honest note the price is approximate, and the exact figure comes after an on-site measurement

The last step is what matters most. If people simply close the page after using the calculator, it brings in no inquiries. A good calculator ends with a "Get an exact estimate on WhatsApp" button.

How an estimate becomes an inquiry

  1. The person enters the specifications and sees an approximate total.
  2. They tap the button, and WhatsApp opens with a ready-made message: what they were calculating and which sizes they entered.
  3. Instead of "How much is it?", the manager gets a complete request and replies to the point right away.
  4. The estimate and the source of the inquiry go into the CRM, so you can see which ads bring people in.

You save time on back-and-forth messages, and the customer gets an answer faster than a competitor could give one.

Common mistakes

  • Too many fields: after the fifth question, people leave.
  • A price that later changes a lot: the customer feels cheated.
  • The calculator is hidden at the bottom of the page.
  • The estimate isn't sent anywhere, and the manager never finds out about it.

An example from our work

For BAQ Stroy, a facade panel company, we built a website with a calculator: it works out the panels, fasteners and weight for a house, and each inquiry arrives in WhatsApp along with the ad source. The site has pages for 22 cities in Kazakhstan, and in 3 months it got 423 clicks from Google.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a calculator if the price depends on an on-site measurement?

Yes. It shows an approximate amount, so the person gets a sense of the price range and books a measurement.

Can a calculator be added to an existing website?

Usually, yes. What matters is that the estimate is sent to your WhatsApp or CRM and doesn't get lost.

Won't customers leave once they see the price?

Those whose budget doesn't fit will leave, and that saves your manager time. The rest get in touch already knowing what to expect.

What if prices change often?

The calculator's prices are kept in a single table that you edit yourself, without a programmer.
